    The History of Cincinnati

The city of Cincinnati was founded in 1789 by Colonel Robert, Mathias Denman, and Israel Ludlow. The three landed at a spot near the northern bank of Ohio and decided to settle. John Filson, a surveyor, had originally named it Losantiville. However, on January 4, 1790, the city was renamed Cincinnati by St. Clair in honor of the Society of Cincinnati.
